There is a job search site he might want to subscribe to. It’s called Welcome to the Jungle.

@Emily Coleman are you looking to tie the attribution to the content within the emails and socials, or specific assets accesses via the campaign? Do you have a digital asset management tool?

#cabs - February 17, 2025 at 08:05 PM

I agree 6 mos min too! They can have an ambassador’s program in the more limited timeframe. Don’t call it a CAB until it’s fully baked.

You might try Jolean Olson at Scenic Road for your higher-end options. We worked with her team a lot at Sage.

What are some good strategies to get executives to ‘do the work’ necessary to support a real, interactive CAB? For example, in a start-up org and the PE folks and board want a real CAB established within a quarter.

#jobs - February 12, 2025 at 06:00 PM

I think I’ve applied there at least 7 times and have maybe gotten one screening interview.

Yes, sorority vibe!

#cabs - February 11, 2025 at 05:35 PM

What does SLED stand for? State, local, edu?

#cabs - February 11, 2025 at 05:34 PM

@Jeanne Talbot ?

#jobs - February 10, 2025 at 07:14 PM

@Sunny Manivannan it’s not lack of ability to write a customer story, it’s two things: 1) doing ‘free’ work for a job opportunity 2) lack of enough material to write a decent story. Plus I don’t have the automation skills they were looking for and the job overall wasn’t a match.

#cabs - February 10, 2025 at 07:05 PM

What are the best resources and training for learning how to successfully run CABs? Years ago I was looking at a training workshop that was quite expensive. Is it better to learn hands-on by doing?

#jobs - February 07, 2025 at 07:14 PM

Is there a new salary survey than this one? And what is up with the salary by location figures for 2020 on slide 20?

#general - February 07, 2025 at 06:58 PM

Copying from <#C07JY264D6D|> for exposure since I’m on a timeline 🙂

I’m working on a presentation about launching a CAB for the final phase of the interview process. As part of the presso, they asked me to look into best practices & insights for CABs in similar industries. Their solution targets high school athletic directors and coaches. Do any of you run a CAB that targets program leaders at schools? Or can someone help me with my AI promt? This one seemed to work the best, but it yielded very large company examples

They require a pretty extensive assignment.

Is there anyone free at the moment that I can bounce a scenario off of? I’m interviewing with a company that has asked me to complete a case study presentation specific to their business, and it feels like potentially doing free consulting work. The ask is very specific, but I am not sure if they are planning to provide background material or not… But anyway, just want to get some second opinions. The project would be easy enough with background, but extremely challenging to do without background and more information.

#jobs - February 05, 2025 at 10:44 PM

THIS👆it’s soooo demoralizing.

#jobs - February 05, 2025 at 10:42 PM

Yup, that’s how it is these days. I’ve even seen weasel titles like ‘senior customer marketing specialist’ on jobs that look more like a director-level or at least senior-manager-level.

#jobs - February 04, 2025 at 03:00 PM

Listed as Customer Success Specialist, but really looks like a references admin. Rate is LOW, $30-35/hr. What should it be for this JD? If interested, message me, and I can connect you to the recruiter.

I’m not sure if this is Vertex or not.

#jobs - January 29, 2025 at 08:26 PM

They were previously floating it at $30-38/hr They wouldn’t tell me the name of the client, which was also aggravating. They did say they could come up to $48/hr.

Just watched the Gartner Top Marketing Predictions for 2025 webcast. I thought it was pretty interesting and worth a listen while multitasking 🙂

#jobs - January 24, 2025 at 04:00 PM

Is it reasonable to specify it be done in Zapier specifically?

#jobs - January 24, 2025 at 03:46 PM

I’ve seen worse Mary…. not necessarily for customer marketing. But wondering how many in our space have these skills. I am sure there are many, but I don’t as my career didn’t grow from demand gen and campaigns.

#jobs - January 24, 2025 at 03:41 PM

No, not stressed at all since I am not going to pursue this, but just truly curious to get feedback from others on how they’d approach the different aspects of the request. I think your in the Marketing Communication Women of Atlanta facebook group too and are probably familiar with how the members share and comment on these sort of scenarios.

Beyond seeing if they will pay, which I am 100% sure they will not, I would love to know others might handle the case study creation and the workflow request.

#jobs - January 24, 2025 at 03:36 PM

Sort of what I was thinking too Natalie, but in my case I’m not even qualified to do this… I kinda got the impression the VP of Marketing is just being snarky with me.

#jobs - January 24, 2025 at 03:32 PM

I applied for a customer marketing role and was shortlisted, but they have now changed the position from permanent until they build their pipeline. They want me to complete a challenge assignment within five days (see attached). I am not a digital marketer and do not have the skills to build automated campaigns and I will pull myself out of the running. Still, I am curious about the request and would like to analyze it and give feedback to the organization. If anyone has time to review the challenge, the context, and my questions, I would truly appreciate it. Also, if this sounds like a role you’d be interested in, please DM and I can give you the details.

They provided links to their website, blog, LinkedIn, G2, customer stories, and webinars. In part 2 of the assignment, they provided the results achieved by a fictitious customer of their solution, but there were no other details. They wanted candidates to write a one-page case study. How would you approach it? Just make something up based on their current case study format?
In part 3 they want the candidate to set up several workflow diagrams and one in a specific solution Zapier. I don’t have any of this skill set, but I am sure many of you do. Is this a simple and reasonable request? Would you perceive this as free consulting work you’d say no to?

#general - January 23, 2025 at 08:18 PM

Had another interview today where the company said the initial focus of the role would be customer acquisition… and they even said that until they fill their pipeline the role will be contract. Perhaps I am super dense, but I am not sure what these companies want and I am unsure the best questions to ask in order to understand their expectations. Help. @Kevin Lau I appreciate your LinkedIn post, which gave me some ideas.

#general - January 22, 2025 at 05:25 PM

Not just you @Mary Green (Owner CMAweekly), but I guess it depends.

#general - January 22, 2025 at 05:09 PM

These examples look great. For some products, I think indexing and the ability to do a detailed search is just as important as the visual format.

#general - January 14, 2025 at 02:26 PM

@Irwin Hipsman in this JDs and other similar JDs I believe they are specifically wanting customer marketing to own strategy and execution for demand generation (new prospects) so full customer lifecycle. + engagement/nurturing + content production + PR + + + “all the things”. And in the case of most they have staff in these roles already In some cases I will look at the profiles of the folks in their respective roles and they don’t appear qualified so then I feel like companies are taking advantage of customer marketers…

#general - January 13, 2025 at 04:11 PM

@Evan Huck yes! I remember this string @Nick Venturella started. When I was reading the JD for the role I was thinking that it really is partially a customer success operations manager role not really a customer advocacy & engagement role.

#general - January 13, 2025 at 04:09 PM

@Shannon Howard outside of sales reference calls, what customer advocacy/marketing programs have direct, measurable connection to revenue? Everything else requires foggy attributions.

#general - January 13, 2025 at 03:02 PM

Also, I get a lot of inquiry from start-ups about what programs I’ve created from scratch and owned, which is honestly zero because my roles have always been cross-functional… So maybe I’ve had full ownership and commandeered a program in a different direction, improved it, etc.

But that is more the nature of the companies than my ability to envision and execute a program. For example, I once worked for a non-profit and our road to funding relied on my ability to envision new community programs and get them executed…

#general - January 13, 2025 at 02:58 PM

Me too, which is unfortunate. It makes for a bad candidate experience.

I similarly stumble over what to describe as a function of the role vs what is officially a ‘customer program’. It seems there are vastly different views of what this is.

#general - January 13, 2025 at 02:28 PM

Yes, impact and support for demand generation and revenue, but this JD assigned customer advocacy responsibility specifically for the customer acquisition strategy.

I guess I struggle over when to take JDs literally and when to take them with a grain of salt, since they are all over the map. Often if I ask for clarification during the interview process the response will be noncommittal or vague… it will appear that they aren’t sure what their expectations really are.

In this case I’ll come prepared to talk about how I’ve supported the lead pipeline, renewals, etc. by collaborating with demand gen, product, and content.

#general - January 13, 2025 at 01:47 PM

How deeply should a customer advocacy/marketing/engagement/community manager/lead/director etc. be responsible for developing and executing customer acquisition strategies?

Context: this is a responsibility in a JD for a customer advocacy role I have a phone screen for today. In general I am seeing a lot of JDs with responsibilities that I think are out of scope.

#general - January 08, 2025 at 05:00 PM

It can be used to help report on the useage of content featuring your advocates, but then you end up in a battle over utilization and bias to content new hires are introduced to… not a good measure of content impact.

#jobs - December 17, 2024 at 02:05 PM

Question to other job seekers: how many of you are looking for opportunities at start-ups where you can build the customer marketing function from the ground up? How many of you have proven, successful experience doing it?
