Love this @Amanda Peacock! I think storytelling can be a wide variety of initiatives and it's all about reaching the right person at the right time with the right message, so this is great. How did you position the group reference events? Like a facilitated Zoom call, or webinar, or in person?

Does anybody have examples of b2b storytelling they've seen work for supporting cross-selling efforts? We are a previously one-product b2b company that has launched a (growing) suite of complimentary products on top of the original product, with just under 20% of customers using multiple products.

Thanks!

Thank you for these suggestions, love them!

Have you asked your sales team?

#general - October 03, 2024 at 05:02 PM

Has anyone sent customers gifts for the holiday season? I'm curious what other people are doing in terms of: • *what* (do you send them a gift basket? something more personal) • *why* (just because it's the holidays? because they're amazing and this season is about giving?) • *how* (tied into the what - is there a way to make it more exciting than traditional gift giving?) Thanks in advance!

Yes, thank you @Emily Amos , the numbers I quoted are for professional onsite shoots with professional editing, etc.

It ranges depending on the agency but I’ve usually landed in the $10k-$15k per video range.

We have several new products launching over the next few months and want to find interactive, fast, and easy ways to illustrate the value of the product to existing customers for expansion. Does anybody have any examples of interactive campaigns they've run to introduce existing customers to new products that give them a sampler taste of the product value?

#discussions - July 29, 2024 at 02:53 PM

Do sales concessions include things like requiring a customer to participate in case study as part of the contract signing?

#general - July 26, 2024 at 04:14 PM

Thanks @Rachel Ward, this insight is very helpful!

#general - July 25, 2024 at 05:43 PM

@Mary Green (Owner CMAweekly) - What's that?

#general - July 25, 2024 at 05:26 PM

Is anybody utilizing G2 beyond seeking more positive reviews? Their lead capture and buyer intent functionalities are interesting, as well as their traditional review outreach tools. I'm wondering if anybody has gone hardcore into a G2 strategy that is delivering ROI (and is worth the $18k). Thanks!

@Angela Ferrante - Would love to hear more about this Laudable! Intrigued by the automatically pulling gold part. 🙂

#general - July 24, 2024 at 02:30 PM

Would love thoughts from your diverse perspectives! *Do customers/prospects actually read and get value out of 1,000ish word case studies that take 4-5 minutes to read???* It’s the industry standard. Long written case studies that get published on the website. But then they sit there. I’m a huge fan of slicing them up into bite sized assets that can be used for sales enablement, deal closing, marketing campaigns, success enablement, upselling, etc. But if the slices are what’s important, is it worth the time to create the really long written case study? Should it be a quick summary to post on the website to support having social proof and good logos?

Thanks @Val Geisler! Will dm you @Alexie Glover

I second the idea of a testimonial quote. A customer story can take many forms, and if you want to focus the big forms on bigger customers, a testimonial quote or review or blog post can be a low effort way for you to feature the customer, while giving them some promotion and exposure. Also, what’s the growth potential of the customer? Are they small today but could be a bigger brand advocate in the future?

#job-seekers - May 13, 2024 at 04:15 PM

Hi everybody! I'm actively looking for my next opportunity in customer advocacy/marketing or product marketing. If I can help anybody else on the hunt, let me know! Also would love to connect on [LinkedIn](https://linkedin.com/in/timjahn).

Agreed on Riverside. One of the reasons Zoom is not an ideal solution is the platform doesn’t record each persons video separately. Riverside does (and at high quality), so your video editor can more easily create a professional looking video and have more flexibility since each persons video can be cut together. Zoom switches view based on who is talking (or who Zoom thinks is talking) and you have no control over the final recorded video.

This is great, thanks @Jeanne Talbot!

Since much of the content of this channel was general content, would it make sense to keep this channel as #general and make the newly created channel #annoucements? I wonder if this better preserves the history of #general?

#announcements - February 05, 2024 at 08:10 PM

I feel like this is an ongoing discussion amongst the industry and at every company I've worked at. 🙂 I think it's great to start with understanding the purpose case studies are serving in your org. This will help dictate how much the age of the case study matters. For example, if sales people are regularly referencing case studies, they will fall out of relevance quicker for that function, as customers don't want to have a 7 year old case study as an example of people using your product. But if they're just logos being displayed on the website, that can still be useful, even if the case study that supports the logo is a bit old.

I used to do retros every other week with my dev team back when I was a product manager. There are many frameworks. I'm a big fan of a kanban board (ala Trello) with 3 columns: • What went well • What didn't go well • What should we change for next time Then you allow each team member to briefly explain their item. If you only have 30 minutes and more than a handful of people, this may not work for you as that's too short a time. No matter what, the key is people adding items to be reflected upon *before* the meeting, not during.

#announcements - December 06, 2023 at 06:27 PM

This company sounds terrible.

#announcements - December 04, 2023 at 08:07 PM

That email is unbelievable @Val Geisler. To get all personal about relating to a working mother and then basically say BUT YOU DIDN'T ASK US SOON ENOUGH SUCKER is just despicable.

#announcements - December 04, 2023 at 08:06 PM

Also HI @Vera Flores!

#announcements - December 04, 2023 at 08:06 PM

This is a golden example of BE A GOOD HUMAN AND JUST REFUND HER. Like come on. This could easily spread to bad PR in their niche and I'm willing they could refund a whopping $700 to maintain goodwill and do the right thing.

#welcome - November 27, 2023 at 08:58 PM

Customers, customers, customers! (Yelled to the tune of Steve Balmer 😂 )

#announcements - October 18, 2023 at 02:02 PM

I meet regularly with stakeholders individually (specifically product marketing managers) to do this sort of thing, and also maintain an internally available Asana board that is available to see with all updated info, as well as tag stakeholders in the Asana items so they are notified of all the updates I make as items progress

#announcements - October 11, 2023 at 01:12 PM

What do the new logo promotions look like?

#open-share - October 06, 2023 at 01:17 PM

Thanks, super helpful! We have a unique model where we don't sell directly to the customer - we sell only through partners and a vendor marketplace, so we don't own our customer relationship at the outset nor do people at the customer's company beyond the end user necessarily know who we are.

#open-share - October 05, 2023 at 06:08 PM

@Shannon Howard - Interesting, how do you get to the executive sponsor at the company to begin with?

#open-share - October 05, 2023 at 05:54 PM

Anybody have any success convincing large companies to participate in case studies? How do you convince decision makers at enterprise companies to approve of end users participating in case studies for your company?

#announcements - October 03, 2023 at 05:15 PM

Interested in this!

#announcements - August 23, 2023 at 01:51 PM

@Michelle Cloutier - What are the reasons for moving away from the spreadsheets?

#announcements - August 23, 2023 at 01:50 PM

When you're a duo, much easier to be scrappier too 🙂

#announcements - August 23, 2023 at 01:50 PM

Tools are just tools. Start scrappy and small, and solve problems that software tools can solve once they become painful enough

#announcements - August 23, 2023 at 01:50 PM

And you can create another really organized spreadsheet with highlights/summaries for other stakeholders

#announcements - August 23, 2023 at 01:50 PM

I've done this in the past as a duo with just a really organized spreadsheet

#random - August 14, 2023 at 04:24 PM

Ugh. Sorry to hear this.

#announcements - August 11, 2023 at 06:39 PM

Do we need to register to get the recording or will you post here?

#announcements - August 10, 2023 at 08:22 PM

What are your thoughts on keeping customer quotes updated in a customer quote/testimonial library? If the company is still a customer but the quoted person at the company no longer works there, can you still use the quote/testimonial? If no, how often do you review quotes to see if they're still able to be used?

#announcements - August 10, 2023 at 08:04 PM

Thanks!

#announcements - August 08, 2023 at 04:45 PM

The end user of our product is a systems administrator type who is not the decision maker when it comes to the company participating in a case study. I'm thinking the corporate communications team at the customer company is probably the stakeholder I need to sell the case study benefits to. *Does anyone have any resources/advice on getting a company to agree to (and excited about) participate in a case study when the end user the case study will be about is not the decision maker?*

#announcements - August 01, 2023 at 06:34 PM

If you haven't already, it's also great to work with your customer success team to have success managers do personal outreach to the customers they know would benefit from the conference

#announcements - August 01, 2023 at 06:21 PM

Follow up on #2: A month is still a looooong way away in event planning. I'd bet most of your 100 people will register in the 2 weeks just before the event.

#announcements - August 01, 2023 at 06:21 PM

Couple thoughts from experience throwing events in the past: 1. How recognized is your company? Is it a big enough name that people will sign up without knowing the programming because the company's reputation precedes itself? If it's not, it may be hard for people to decide without knowing the programming details. 2. In general, a majority of people sign up last minute for events. It's terribly annoying as an event planner and why so many events offer steep discounts and incentives to register early. 3. Is cost truly the issue? By suggesting paying for planes/hotels, I imagine you're hypothesizing that people can't afford the entire trip. Most conferences are business expenses not paid for by the attendees, so if the event is truly valuable, I imagine people will be able to convince their manager to go.
