Hi all, I've been asked to lead a chat for some marketers in Australia about customer marketing as a function, and I'd love some advice on the title! Most have never worked with a customer marketer, so this serves as an introductory session.

I want to cover the three pillars: expansion/optimisation, advocacy, and lifecycle. Here are some options:

  1. Customer Marketing: How to Expand, Delight, and Activate Your Customer Base
  2. From Upsell to Evangelist: The Customer Marketing Playbook
  3. The Underrated Function of Customer Marketing: Maximising Customer Value Through Expansion and Advocacy Thanks all!

And if they asked for hourly rates?

#general - October 29, 2025 at 03:10 AM

Hi all, quick question: what would you charge per hour to do advocacy contract work for a company?

#jobs - August 11, 2025 at 10:37 PM

Not far at all!! I'm just in Randwick!

I'll introduce you to my sister, she just moved to Vancouver Island recently with her wife and she's found it hard to find a job (even though she has a visa!)

#jobs - August 11, 2025 at 09:03 PM

Woah, that's a crazy connection!! Where in Sydney are they??

#jobs - August 10, 2025 at 11:58 PM

Hi all, my sister has just moved to Victoria, BC in Canada and she's looking for a job. She's got a background in marketing, focused more on the NN demand gen side. If anyone has any contacts in Canada for either a remote role or something based in Victoria, please let me know. Would be great to get her set up and ready over there

#general - August 04, 2025 at 05:34 AM

Does anyone here also not focus on ABM strategies for customer marketing? We don't really do it at my company for customers, only for NN. Also keen to hear about some ABM strategies you've all made for customers!

#general - July 30, 2025 at 10:57 PM

Thanks Sarah. And would you ever cancel all user groups because of the numbers, or keep them for those die-hards who still attend?

#general - July 29, 2025 at 06:58 AM

Also customer stories take multiple forms. A customer might put their hand up for a story, and could be a good candidate for a speaking opportunity at an event or a webinar or a quote in an ebook or blog. Those are more tactical than only focusing on case studies imo

#general - July 28, 2025 at 10:57 PM

Curious to hear from others whether they're seeing the death of in-person user groups, or if this is just happening in Australia. We've led a series of in-person events over the years and numbers are just not what they used to be, so our org decided to can them for the year

#general - July 28, 2025 at 10:40 PM

I actually have a hot take on this. There shouldn't be a goal for number of stories created, but instead a goal to create strategic content that features customers and fills a gap. Otherwise it's stories for the sake of stories.

#general - June 04, 2025 at 10:49 PM

Debriefs and postmortems after launching something. Whether you do them quarterly or after each project, just give some time to breathe in between, to celebrate, and to think about what learnings you can take away

#general - May 14, 2025 at 12:44 PM

So I'm pretty against using anonymous quotes, purely because I feel like any organisation could just make up a quote and slap "title, industry" after it. From a credibility perspective, it just doesn't sit well with me. I might be alone in this thinking though!

#general - May 12, 2025 at 09:56 AM

I would LOVE to hear more. We currently have a Salesforce tick box which we never use. I reach out to customers directly to ask if we can use their logo and often they have to then go to their legal or comms teams (we're in fintech). Such a lengthy process!

#announcements - April 23, 2025 at 12:23 AM

Or I'm happy to host on a particular topic. Definitely passionate about the topic of quality vs quantity and how to have tough conversations with executives who think X number of stories = a good KPI vs X number of stories to close a particular gap

#announcements - April 23, 2025 at 12:17 AM

It'd be at 4pm PST (means people in APAC could also join!) and I was thinking it'd be nice to just catch up and hear what roadblocks people are coming up against on the advocacy front, or any new programs or software people have started up

#announcements - April 19, 2025 at 11:28 PM

I'd love to host/attend an APAC-friendly one!

#general - April 15, 2025 at 01:11 PM

Will it be recorded? Unfortunately it'll be 4am in Australia!

#general - April 04, 2025 at 11:58 AM

Anyone have an internal tracker for customer advocacy? (without paying for 3rd party software)

#general - March 24, 2025 at 09:14 PM

Oh good!! Yeah I think I'll have to do that.
At a previous company I'd do an enablement session with the dedicated customer success/customer account manager so they could share more detail (plus it showed collaboration)

#general - March 24, 2025 at 06:49 PM

Maybe it's the lack of Slack!

#general - March 24, 2025 at 06:49 PM

Thanks all!

So I currently do an email with bullet points about why this may be useful to them, plus a link to the reference slide, the actual case study, and even a link to our social sharing platform.

We unfortunately use Teams, and people don't tend to create groups to send out info on there.

#general - March 24, 2025 at 11:46 AM

When you create a new customer story, do you typically do an enablement session for the sales team? Or just send it out in an email? I've found our team tend to skim emails or don't take in the info about new stories

#jobs - March 22, 2025 at 09:32 PM

https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/4187815859

For anyone in Aus. Seems like a good company.

#general - March 19, 2025 at 10:37 PM

Thanks both!

#general - March 19, 2025 at 07:10 PM

Can anyone share a page they send out to customers for referrals?

#general - March 18, 2025 at 11:47 PM

I love that Apollo one @. Honestly looking to replicate

#general - March 06, 2025 at 12:45 AM

Hi! I was wondering where I could find that form, would be great to be matched up!

#7-case-studies-stories - March 03, 2025 at 08:27 PM

I've done the same as Liz ^
A spreadsheet of all stories, with relevant quotes, and a link. I'll also usually add in columns like industry, key metrics, and products used

#general - February 24, 2025 at 10:50 PM

For anyone who works for a SaaS company, do you do anything fun for customers around the time of renewal/ahead of renewal/after renewal?

#general - February 18, 2025 at 10:28 PM

Hiya, I know there's a weekly zoom call that happens. Would people be open to it being during an APAC-friendly time sometime? 😬 Would love to join!

#general - February 12, 2025 at 09:55 PM

Any in Australia? 👀

#general - February 12, 2025 at 09:55 PM

Congrats to all who were nominated for the CMA awards!!

#general - February 08, 2025 at 11:34 AM

We're currently going through the same process, but a lot of people want to keep old case studies up because they're being used in campaigns/perform well through SEO.

For now, I'm doing it in stages. Stage one is delete any that are from an org that aren't a customer anymore, as no one can fight that 😄
Next step is to read the ones that are over 3 years old and see if they need a refresh or are obsolete. And then that's where the hard part starts: convincing sales and field marketing that we need to take them down as they're just taking up space.

#general - February 04, 2025 at 06:30 PM

I used to say that it wouldn't be endorsement if it's all just facts with zero quotes. Got the US Army and NASA JPL to agree via that

#general - January 28, 2025 at 10:51 PM

Will do!!

#general - January 28, 2025 at 10:31 PM

Hey all, looking for info on how those with Base are using it. What strategy do you have in place? We're potentially using it this year and it'd be great to hear some suggested ways in which to use it from other customer marketers!

#general - January 09, 2025 at 01:29 AM

Ooo thanks!

#general - January 09, 2025 at 01:25 AM

Thanks Lauren! At the moment I'm just interested in exploring options so I can take them back to the team for discussion. It's just good to keep on top of all the different vendors. Returned from maternity leave and there are WAY more AI products out there for customer marketing and advocacy!

#general - January 09, 2025 at 01:21 AM

I'd love love to be added!
And here's the link: https://lumen5.com/
It's AI for video, it's been great when trying to create new customer content quickly

#general - January 09, 2025 at 12:01 AM

And has anyone used Peerbound? I received a message on LinkedIn about it, keen to hear others' thoughts

#general - January 08, 2025 at 11:57 PM

Just looked at Champion and Laudable thanks to @Brittnee Dawson. Champion especially looks AMAZING. What other tech tools are people using in the new year? We've been using Lumen to create short customer story videos

#general - January 08, 2025 at 11:55 PM

@Sandra Lowe

#general - January 06, 2025 at 11:54 PM

I also have a new year's resolution to be more active here! I used to be in Boston and would meet up with a few of you (shout-out to all you Boston customer marketers!), but am now back in Australia and would love to organise a Sydney in-person catchup or an AU virtual catchup to swap ideas and connect. So if you're AU or Sydney based, let me know! 🦘🐨

#jobs - March 19, 2024 at 11:02 PM

Thanks @Gary Hoffman. I've worked in Boston for 4 years but made the decision to move back home. So more interested in finding a company in the US that would be open to someone living in Australia working for them

#jobs - March 04, 2024 at 08:42 PM

Thanks @Natalie Gullatt, that makes a lot of sense!

#jobs - March 03, 2024 at 07:03 PM

Yeah I saw those, always nice to see APJ roles. My question is more around US based companies with non APJ roles being alright with the person working from Aus

#jobs - March 03, 2024 at 04:18 PM

I'm not looking for a job currently, but I often wonder if companies in the US would be open to people from Australia working for them, especially West Coast based companies.

#jobs - January 04, 2024 at 02:52 PM

Thanks so much @Matt Basil!

#jobs - December 22, 2023 at 03:29 AM

Dream role!
