I had a good conversation with the hiring manager at Cribl, who heads Demand Gen. They are looking for a senior customer marketing manager. My background is mainly advocacy and they need someone who has a lot of lifecycle (data driven revenue influence with cross/up sells, adoption, and retention success). Someone who is heavily experienced with successful demand gen campaigns and nurture strategies. He said they had 600 resumes for the role! I let him know I would see if anyone here fits the bill and send his way today. So if you're interested, let me know. It looks like they took the JD off their website.

Yep, I think if it's an IC role, then they need to prioritize what is most important (or consult/recommend on what this may be if they're not sure). It's doable to do all of it at a smaller company but a lot to juggle so prioritization is key from the top down.

I also had a first time experience during a recent interview with a hiring manager. We spoke for an hour and she never left time for me to ask any questions, not one! And didn't end it with saying I could email her with any questions I had. Very odd and was frankly a red flag, so I'm pondering whether I want to even move forward.

I'm interviewing at four companies right now, it's a whirlwind of meetings. I think like Liz mentioned, most jobs I'm seeing are a bit too junior for me. I'm also seeing salaries decreasing a bit, at least lower than they were maybe 6 months+ ago. Finally, there are some roles out there that are looking for both full lifecycle (retention, adoption, and expansion) and reference/advocacy programs for an IC role. Sort of wanting everything all-in-one which is a lot to ask for. Would love to hear what others are seeing out there!

I could see that if the hiring manager was leading a generalized marketing team, but this was the actual customer marketing and advocacy team lead.

I am interviewing for a role that requires "10 years of building customer marketing programs" --a lot of years in a relatively newer discipline, I have about six years now. Ironically the HM running the CM team has less experience in CM

I completely agree here with Katlin. We now do more frequent virtual meetings but focusing on one topic. And having them come prepared to discuss certain areas around the topic. Good luck!

We only solicit for GPI reviews but have found the best success (like Laurie added) is to set up a table with some swag for a review at our user conferences. We market to developers/engineers and they seem to be fairly willing to take 5-10 min do the review and grab some swag.

Hi @Camille Shortridge 🙂. Are you referring to G2? I manage and update our profile on G2 but just received an email our account is "unclaimed". I'm assuming it is another avenue to get us to pay for one of their packages, which we are not in the market to do so currently.

Interesting, I think it would take a lot of careful digging to make sure the connection is obviously someone who would use your product or be interested in the pain points/results even if not a practitioner. And, as someone else indicated, be cautious of competitors. I think I'll run it by some of my sales folks to see their thoughts. Thanks for sharing!
