Story creation - still huge. Still a top priority for almost every organization. @Sam Shepler and Dan Kalmar will be discussing the key pieces to developing your customer content strategy as the customer content noise continues to get noisier. You can join live next Tuesday on LinkedIn: <https://www.linkedin.com/events/talkadvocacytome-samshepler-dan7233833140450967552/about/>

If you want to hear from one of the rockstars in the advocacy space, definitely click “Attend” for this discussion with Cristina Melluzzi. If you don’t know @Cristina Melluzzi, she’s worked for large enterprise organizations like Microsoft and Cisco. She built one of the first advocacy empires while at Cisco who many people have fashioned their advocacy team design against. She’s speaking next Tuesday on how she was able to start from a team of one and fashion a whole customer advocacy department by speaking to the C-Suite in terms they understood. Should be a great discussion. <https://www.linkedin.com/events/talkadvocacytome-cristinamelluz7227355848132419584/about/>

If you’re like me and you recognize more and more overlap with CS, CM and Customer Advocacy, then we have a really interesting discussion for you tomorrow on Talk Advocacy to Me. @Maureen Rice of Churn Zero has the unique perspective of being a customer marketer who leverages customer success tooling to nurture and activate her customers. This discussion should give you food for thought on how you are aligning with your CS org and if you are missing out on untapped technology potential. Live LinkedIn session tomorrow at 12pm ET. Always love to have you join. Feel free to leave questions ahead of time as well. <https://www.linkedin.com/events/7191431322748248064/about/>

IT’S TIME!!! Advocacy Vendor Speed Dating is back for the 4th year. Love, love, love this event and seems like good timing for all the shakeup going on in the space. 😉 We also try and make this just a ton of fun and will be incorporating more audience participation and CMA insights. 15 vendors (several who are first-time participants), 10 minutes each, 0 pressure and you’re not stuck on any sales lists. And of course, we never skimp on the prizes. Everyone who registers is eligible for our Ultimate Date giveaway. $200 Ticketmaster g/c, $250 gift card to the airline of your choice, two Away travel bags for you and your date. (Kind of sad I can’t win myself) And _this_ year, each vendor is required to bring a customer date to give their real-life experience working with the vendor. Come and please share! <https://events.thecaptivatecollective.com/speed-dating-2024?utm_campaign=Speed%20Dating%202024&utm_source=captivate-liz>

Hi All! If you enjoyed the TATM episode with Jon Erskin last week, we have an equally tough but meaty topic next Tuesday with @Jane Menyo. We’ll be asking if our approach to Customer Marketing is working or if it’s time for a new playbook. Jane, Head of Customer Marketing at Gong, is impressively forward-thinking in this area. Should be another great topic. Join us live on LinkedIn Tuesday. <https://www.linkedin.com/events/7176209761732816896/comments/>

#influitive - January 19, 2024 at 02:53 PM

Hi All. Sorry I’m late to respond and thanks for the invite @Mary Green (Owner CMAweekly). Yes, happy to share what we are seeing. We have been getting lots of outreach regarding Influitive. There are several long term Influitive customers who are considering next moves. However, and I think wisely, many of these customers want to carefully evaluate before making final decisions. There many questions to consider: • Impact on service - that’s pretty evident • Impact on platform - not immediately as clear, but the platform won’t be going away anytime soon and no immediate functionality changes • Impact on long term vision - VERY unclear as there doesn’t seem to be one currently, they seem to be scrambling here • Brand values alignment - for some, the new business model and strategy is simply not a fit For many we are talking to now, the first steps are a through assessment in understanding 1) what value the program is truly generating today as it is and 2) based on primary goals, audience, risk aversion, etc. is Influitive still the right choice. Our team tries to come in with the most unbiased point of view but also bring our knowledge and connections to most of the platforms available to help evaluate the risks, rewards and viability of making a big change. Similarly, if anyone here is evaluating a move, my advice would be to try and keep as unbiased and open minded as possible (trust me, talking to myself here as former head of Services and CS at Influitive _and_ a former share holder) and do an assessment on impact to org, your role and customers. Likewise, estimate impact of _staying_ with the changes to ownership, service levels and undocumented product strategy. Even a simple pros vs cons list is a good way to start building some clarity. *What is right for one Influitive customer could be completely wrong for another!* We have some customers who want to switch and some who will definitely be staying. However, regardless of massive shakeups like this, it’s always a good idea to periodically assess if the program itself is healthy, if it’s truly driving business and customer impact and if the platform you are on is allowing you to effectively execute your advocacy strategy rather than if you are shaping your strategy to fit the confines of your platform. I agree there is no single platform out there in the CMA space that is going to do everything. Instead, the trend right now is to piece together multiple tools that do one or two things very well. I look forward to seeing some continued progress and disruption in the platform landscape so that customer marketing and advocacy can continue to mature. We need good tools in order to do that.

@Alison Bukowski I could buy into this term. A weather of knowledge - someone who has weathered the storm in a particular field. I think that’s legit!

A “weather” of knowledge, eh? Wow. That sounds REALLY knowledgeable!

#announcements - August 04, 2023 at 04:20 PM

Welcome @Kelly Miller! I do think the focus or mix is highly dependent on the target audience. For practitioners, events like the ones @Mary Green (Owner CMAweekly) hosts here focused on specific challenges or execution are a great way to connect customers, get an added layer of support for them and also build valuable best practice content from the discussions! Folks with some margin in their schedule who don’t necessarily get a lot of vendor love also love experiences. @Kiely (Monteiro) Hajjar has hosted some really creative customer experiences, such as escape rooms, candle making, etc. One of my favorite personal experiences was a virtual travel tour in Spain hosted by a local there. For executive level audiences, the size, focus and content would differ greatly. Regular roundtable discussions around very specific industry level topics that speak to their business challenges is a great event to bring value to the attendees and build some awesome content. You can also insert thought-leaders into these discussion for another layer of value. However, executives need fun too! I love infusing something exciting into an event, like a CAB, but it has to be done very intentionally and very well. Exceptional experiences that they can’t just get any time and don’t waste their time!

#announcements - August 04, 2023 at 04:05 PM

Hi All, been thinking about executive programs a lot lately. I specifically would love insights/ideas/examples from folks who have run a newsletter to a specific executive advocacy group focused on thought leadership, community and relationship building. Besides some great industry focused content, has anyone seen anything really creative being included in an executive level newsletter?

Nice work @Ari Hoffman. Very cool to see the large list of CMOs and great for building awareness around the CMA practice.

#announcements - June 05, 2023 at 10:05 PM

@Maura Frost All good suggestions above. I’ll just add a few more: • Clear value proposition to the CSM team, just like you should have a clear value proposition to customers when inviting them into the program. I always say, you are building advocates externally and internally! People invest in things they believe will bring value to them in terms of time saving, increased role success, etc. • Have a program prospectus ready if you don’t already to hand off after the presentation. This could be a single PDF sheet or a few slides that outlines the purpose, mission, values, target audience, value propositions (internally and externally), target audience, etc. That sounds like a lot, but keep it short! • And a really good piece of advice I was told was during the presentation, get attendees to commit to one thing. That could be writing down the names of two clients who should be invited, downloading the prospectus during the meeting, raising their hand to volunteer for being a “program expert”, etc. The idea is simply to not just share knowledge, but get action going immediately. Hope there’s something helpful in there for you!

I’m a fan of a recorded interview. The beauty of a live interview is the ability of course to pivot and allow some nuggets of insight to find their way in. However, I am finding more and more that a recorded interview gives you so much bang for buck: • Video segments or the long-form interview • Audio clips • Podcast • Transcript from which you can create an easy blog post • Formal case study if you want to go that direction • Quotes

Hello Channel: I have a bit more detail now, so I’d like to reshare my original post. If someone has expertise in community management for *Higher Logic Vanilla* and ideally experience working with more senior IT roles, I have a client looking for a 3-6 month full-time contract. This community would run more like an advocacy program than a traditional community. They need help with implementation and then management from point of launch. If you are interested please DM me. Feel free to tag anyone who you think might be as well. Many thanks!

#announcements - March 24, 2023 at 05:54 PM

It’s an old book but How to Win Friends and Influence People is just based on basic human psychology.

#announcements - March 24, 2023 at 05:53 PM

Dale Carnegie has the tried and true method of getting buy-in and response - empathize, state how you both want the same thing, show you are interested in the same goals they are, then show how getting the action done is in line with their own goals (and those of the company), and then directly ask for you need - “I will need X by Y date or I will need to do Z if I do not receive by that time.”
