Oftentimes CSMs are the ones being asked to reach out to their customer to put an advocacy request in front of them. An advocacy platform removes the need for them to do that, which can save them a lot of time and back-and-forth with customers.

@Grace Corey - I'm a big fan of recording these things in your CRM if at all possible. The benefit is that you can give visibility to others in the organization, but also that you can measure these things against renewal and expansion opportunities too. Twice now I've used the "Log a Call" feature in Salesforce and had a special version created for the customer marketing team to use. The drop down of activities represented all of the things we wanted to track (blog post, reference, customer video/story, speaking engagement, etc.) so we could bucket the activities in our quarterly reports. We used the date field to record when it happened and then also had another date field on the record labeled "Thank you sent". Not every act of advocacy needed a thank you, but that way we could also easily report on that. Or see who was getting a lot of gifts vs none, etc. πŸ˜‰

I love @Shannon Howard’s idea too - different pages for different acts. Sendoso should hopefully already be integrated with your CRM too.... 🀞

Many years ago (when people were more centrally located in offices) we sent a swag kit to the implementer. In it, there was a 'treasure map' we created with specific onboarding milestones in it. If they completed all the steps in the map before 30 days we gave their team a pizza party. We had a few customers hit that milestone and they all enjoyed it. I know that things like this are much harder to do today though... 😒

@Marlee Ravid One thing I always like doing when gathering customer feedback is to give them fake money to vote with. So for example, everyone gets 10 fake $10 bills. They can then choose to put all that money on one thing that really, really matters to them, or divide it up amongst several features that are interesting to them. It makes it kind of interactive plus it drives home the point that there are trade-offs when developing features.

One thing I've done in the past is create a bucket of money for creating a few 'big' advocates. For example, for us, we needed a strong Marketing Ops leader who would advocate for us. We set aside money to nurture one by submitting them to speak at another event and then paying for their travel. We also submitted them for a few awards during the year which often has a fee associated with the submission process.
