I don’t know of a successful referral program, especially one that scales, @cecilia Wainio. I’ve found the best ones are not automated or with a link, just people talking and then letting someone at the company know they mentioned COMPANY to PERSON as an option to consider.

Do you have an application or process for collecting info on members before they join the LinkedIn group? I’m asking since it’s tricky, if not impossible, to get data out of a LinkedIn Group (similar to a Facebook Group) from a Community Management perspective. I’m asking to see if you’ll be able to easily support (and scale) the organization of local meetups as the program grows.

Also, maybe there’s a way to create templates for similar “asks” from folks in the org to make the program scalable and a form to take-in all the information and assets to build out the program.

Have the emails that support those 2 business goals shown any value to achieving those goals? End of the day, I’d get a PT Pardot pro to help you execute this because that’s a lot and not a ton of time to only spend on emails. Sorry, I can’t be more helpful to you, @Natalie Gullatt!

Are the emails via Pardot actually working to create expansion opportunities or helping retain existing customers? If they’re not doing one of those, then what’s the point of them? Where I’m going with this is — if the emails are helping achieve one of those 2 goals, then I’d advocate for a PT Pardot person to help you execute on the emails and give you time back to do new, strategic types of work.

In all seriousness, I think it’s all about them starting the convo vs a CM driving it. Communities with a QOTD just feels too forced to get something whereas I’d rather of have sporadic engagement but the value for members is high — my $.02.

Honestly, I have found execs to the be ones who pop in and out when they have a question mostly but are most drawn in by: • Learning in an exclusive, psychologically safe space • Events — IRL or virtual • Relationship building/networking I’ve never really seen execs consistently engaged in a Community. When it happens, it’s been the exception to the rule, not the rule.

That’s why I think Discourse is a solid option because it’s pretty flexible and has a high degree of flexibility (with relative ease). Asana and Pinterest (Business Community) are on Discourse and customized well, imho.

Are you doing a Community-exclusive event or content there? • FOMO is real On the main stage of the conference, y’all should give out Community Awards or come up with another way to publicly recognize Community Members and *show* everyone how much your company values them and their work in it. • Salesforce has a Golden Hoodie that Salesforce legit wrote a post on to educate people on the meaning of it within their Community and ecosystem.

YES! As @Max Pete mentioned, lean into “Pilot Programs” early and regularly as you build out your Community program. I’m running Part 2 of a Pilot Program for a client now. The community has been active for over 3 years.

A few things to start the process: • Go on a listening tour of your internal and external stakeholders to learn what they expect, hope, & dream of for the Community program at your company • Set clear business outcomes (engagement or other fluffy metrics *are not* business outcomes) • Learn how potential members what to engage and learn from their peers through the program • Let the information you learn from your listening tour info your platform evaluation process • Remember to continuously build with your members not for them • Create a Code of Conduct (ideally in partnership with your early, active members) asap and treat it like a living document, as it’ll evolve as your community does too • Identify your internal stakeholders early and inform them of updates of the program often since Community is a long game ➡️ Identify leading and lagging indicators of success for each program/benefit offered to members Sharing this incredible Community Launch Plan document (view-only) from Brian Oblinger: [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qEsTpoLZZoygWK66db3o1y9NUcSmgx3_WQUG8fPfHu0/edit](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qEsTpoLZZoygWK66db3o1y9NUcSmgx3_WQUG8fPfHu0/edit) • Make a copy of it to adjust it to fit the need of your specific rollout plan for your program. I’d talk to the firms who invest there and become a preferred vendor for their portfolio companies. You get insights from the team at the firm and access at scale but it’s a hard thing to do too.
