@Madison G Was the negative feedback specific? If it's actionable feedback, maybe there's a way to minimize those negative sentiments.

You're absolutely right, Val. That was petty and wrong of me, certainly not taking the high road. I'm still mad about this, though, and wondering how to help.

Leslie - I have been in the soul-crushing place that you are now. It's devastating and my heart goes out to you. It took a long time, but I'm feeling better, mostly thanks to the support of this community. You did a good thing in reaching out because help will come, but also because if someone of your stature in the industry is going through this, then others will understand that they're not alone and it's not their fault. Bad things happen to good people. I'm so sorry.

How, besides here, can you share your story and PMA's lame letter with everyone? Make it public how awful they are and maybe you'll get a "upon further consideration" letter.

Welcome Cristina! I'll reach out on LinkedIn.

Adding onto Lauren's comment: Don't the teams talk with each other? Wow. All this could've been avoided. Regardless of what the change is, it should be raised internally first, just in case.

Things like jumping to conclusions (maybe even unconsciously), and also assuming ill intent (which I say only because people are so angry) could be stress fractures resulting from the current circumstances everyone is in - laid off, or afraid of being laid off, or working your role plus those of the people that were laid off, under the convenient direction of "do more with less." Everyone is carrying more than their share of pressure right now. I don't mean to sound like this is as simple as a bumper sticker, but perhaps some kindness is called for. The best thing about this community is its...community.

I'm coming to this late, but I see a couple things: It sounds like those angry comments are coming first, before asking for clarification. If that's the case, a lot of this could go away if we just stopped for a minute to ask a question. Let me know if I don't have the whole picture here.

I'm in Minnesota so of course I love Spam!

#announcements - April 21, 2023 at 07:07 PM

This was a great meeting. The ideas that were shared were super-useful and doable.

How about a session where people share their very best customer stories and the group can vote for a winner? Can customer stories be shared at an unconference?

Mary, you are an amazing mentor, teacher, and community leader. I don't know how you do all that you do but I'm so grateful. Thank you.

I feel the same way about my cats...

OMG - Happy Birthday, Amanda! So the little guy is having reservations about what he's getting into? Remind him that there's pizza, ice cream, rocking with mom, more naps than he'll ever get as an adult (leave that part out), no need to have a job, and he's in the loving care of your family. What more could the little guy ask for?

This is going to be a big hit. Gold and purple were my high school colors. You're channeling the amazing Golden Knights! Sending great vibes, but you're already in good hands!

Great to have you here, @Deena Zenyk!

I wonder how old humor is.

I agree, Shannon. The "limited time only" approach tries to force the customer into acting. I resent it and I'll rarely comply. I think a lot of people respond to this, but does the end justify the means?

Hi Anna - welcome! Annapoorna like the mountain?

#jobs - February 03, 2023 at 05:52 PM

I'm looking at a role in Customer Support Management. Not exactly Customer Advocacy, but could be a good step toward professional schmoozing with those departments. Several different review sites' reviews are 4.3-6 range. However, Glassdoor is 3.3 and several reviews on G2 mention frustration at "no phone number to talk to a person." For me this puts the role in the "tread cautiously" category. Thoughts?

#jobs - January 31, 2023 at 07:56 PM

You could try putting the "mid-senior level" or just "mid-senior" in the search bar instead of the filter and see if that helps.

#jobs - January 31, 2023 at 07:55 PM

Searching by skills is also helpful, though maybe not in this case, which is pretty specific. My problem is the opposite. I ask for something specific and get all kinds of nonsense back.

#jobs - January 31, 2023 at 07:47 PM

How are you searching now, Jennifer?

#jobs - January 27, 2023 at 05:30 PM

I'm working on Mary's #1 "Confidence Sells." This is really effective. A variation on this theme is writing your LinkedIn Profile, "Tell me about yourself," resume summary, cover letter the way you think your biggest fan would - maybe a manager who believed in you, a mentor or coach, a friend... This idea is to get out of your own way. I love this idea!

#jobs - January 27, 2023 at 02:46 AM

It was a great session. I learned a lot about how to approach (and not approach) an interview...things I had no idea I was getting wrong. I also learned a ton about ways to go about a job search that I hadn't heard anywhere else.

#announcements - December 18, 2022 at 01:36 PM

This was a fantastic and fun networking session. I made several great new contacts and really enjoyed talking with each person. Thanks, Mary!
