Hi everyone. Me again.
Happy Hump 🐫 Day!
I’m doing my annual career reflection, late as I usually do this on December, I would love to hear how people moved up or change specialties in marketing.
When you decided to move from individual contributor to people, when you decided you wanted to move from demand gen marketing to customer marketing for example, when you decided you wanted to create marketing strategies and no longer do as much execution of strategies created by others or something else.
I would love to hear how you decided to move to something else, steps you took to make your move, something(s) you wished you would’ve changed or done to be more successful.
Thanks in advance.
PS If you like coffee chats and would like to talk, happy to connect via zoom most mornings from 930am ET.

Hi @Natalie Gullatt -- each time I've made a move within marketing I've put together a bit of a plan to show my boss about why I thought the role was needed (often a new role that I was crafting) and why I was the right person for it and what I expected to accomplish in the first 3-6 months. That process has served me well. I've found that most leaders are excited to see the initiative and the thought process and therefore have been quite supportive.
When I say "bit of a plan" it's usually 6-10 slides.
• Problem statement (here's what the gap is)
• Here's the role that could fill the gap
• Here's why I'm right for the role
• Here's how we can backfill my role (suggestions on moving someone else into the role or hiring or delegating it to several people)
• Here's the first 3-6 things I would focus on
• Here are the results I expect in 6 months and 12 months (this includes time savings for other groups who may be doing part of this new role currently as well as business impact)
I hope that's a little helpful!

Omg wow this is amazing! Thank you so much @Heather Foeh
