It's Giving Tuesday. Would you like to share your local or favorite charities?
We donate to a local Cat TNR program and which helps wildlife. I'm starting to think if I didn't work in tech, I'd train to be a wildlife rescue person.
My old boss (who is a hero!) is looking for orgs to get involved in Blood Caner United. There is more info, and her story, here:
Love this idea, Mary!
I donated to a local Seattle pet rescue which I've fostered for, , and to a cancer support organization in my home state (NY), , which was an important resource for my mom when we first moved to the States and she had recently entered remission
TY for sharing <@U09GAJ0K12T> and @Emily Gover. I'm also from and in NY. I'll check these out.
In 2004, I established and volunteer as the ED for . There are more than 500,000 pets that are surrendered to US shelters when they outlive their owners. Our all-virtual-volunteer nonprofit provides free resources to help!
Aww @Amy that's amazing. I think about this, myself. These poor pets that families don't know what to do with. I wish I could adopt them all.
Thinking beyond Giving Tuesday, I have set up a monthly donation (20 bucks) to my local food pantry. With SNAP benefits in question, many food pantries are seeing an overwhelming increase in needs. Donating money vs. donating food allows for them to scale smartly (ie: buying food in bulk) and helps with decreasing food waste on items.
I just learned about this myself, @Vera Flores. Our church took donations, because we found that the pantry can buy food for pennies on the dollar, so the money goes much further. Great idea.
I'm giving to Second Harvest Food Bank and Jeni Asaba's charity
