Salary negotiation question: If a job provides a salary range, but I know that I will not be taking health insurance, how much wiggle room would you expect in that negotiation? Is there a widely accepted number or percentage that you all negotiate for?

Have you successfully negotiated higher pay knowing you won’t need to use their benefits?

Yes. Just wondering if there are other strategies floating around

Obviously, salary is only part of the expense of a new employee. So, I guess, in my mind, that equals a built-in flexibility to negotiate within.

I’ve tried to leverage not needing their health insurance in the past and didn’t really get anywhere.

Salary ranges are tricky. Looking forward to what the community has to say 👀

Me too.

I’ve done this before, and for my family the health benefits are easily $3k a month, so that’s what I considered when negotiating. Hope that helps.

@Mary Green (Owner CMAweekly) but were you successful?

I was 🙂 I didn’t take the health care so they increased my salary, I think it was only about 10k though.
