How long do you wait for someone to join your zoom call? Is it appropriate to jump off at 6 minutes?

Shannon Howard February 06, 2023 at 04:13 PM

I would say so, yes.

At the 5-6 minute mark I start typing out an email to the attendee while I am still on the call. That usually takes a couple of minutes. After that, it really depends on the meeting. If its someone I’ve been trying to meet with for a long time, its worth waiting just to get them to commit to scheduling another call where the full meeting time can be utilized.

Perfect. TY
It happens quite a bit and I get frustrated sitting, waiting, for someone to jump on.

Being on time to meetings is something that has unfortunately gone by the wayside for a lot of people once everyone switched to remote work.

It depends on the context for me!

If it's a call on the back of cold outreach, I typically know that if they're not there by ~8 minutes in, they're not coming and I'll send a text follow up. Because I may only get one shot at those calls, I normally give it 8 or so minutes and not jump out much earlier.

If it's a client, I'll give them a full 10 - 15 to show up, with a ping at the 5 - 7 mark just to see if something is holding them back.

Wow 15… OK. Good to know.

Joel Klettke February 06, 2023 at 04:27 PM

I mean if the meeting was set for 15 minutes, obviously not. But if it's a 30 - 60 minute, I'll wait it out. I know a lot of the points of contact I'm dealing with are in a ton of meetings that can run long.
