Hi everyone! question for the group - I’ve always handled voice of client programming, including case studies, testimonials, webinars, etc. as the customer marketing manager. Recently we went through a bit of a re-org and I have a new manager, who believes VOC should live within our “content studio”. Has anyone ever gone through something similar and how did you re-align on roles/responsibilities with your manager? Guidance is hugely appreciated - thank you!

In my opinion, this could potentially pigeon hole you depending on how your company views customer marketing/advocacy. In my experience, people who don't have experience with our discipline will categorize this role as content creation. If you love creating customer content, I would just build customer content that aligns to your company's overall content strategy (and make sure there is a promotion strategy & enablement strategy for your content... nothing is more aggravating than creating case studies nobody sees 😭 ). I've been personally "advertising" internally our role as building brand, creating demand & influencing pipeline which helped us move under our CMO when we went through a re-org.

Thank you so much Ciana! I see customer content as a strategy within this field, it supports overall customer marketing objectives. I agree - customer marketing is not content marketing (both important, but not the same). I think the problem is that all content is being moved to this “content studio” that I don’t really have oversight of and I am not able to build that content, so I’m worried customer content specifically will be disjointed. I love how you’ve advocated internally for what your role is - any advice on how you were successful there? THANK YOU!
