Due to repeated complaints about using the community to push for sales, I’m banning Deeto employees from the community. <!everyone>

is this the most-liked post of all time in the community? 😆😬

@Kaily Baskett you are too funny. We just had complaints where people didnt want to post bc they would get outreach every time, and other people were getting a lot of calls after participating. We have a 3 strikes you are out rule and I finally had to pull the trigger. I hate doing this btw.

@Mary Green (Owner CMAweekly) You’re always communicative about the rules, what a shame they didn’t follow! Their loss

Thank you! I probably 3 emails from them after the Influitive acquisition saying that "many customers are moving from Influitive to Deeto". Hmmmm....

I’m sorry @Shelly Ryder I’m sure you got some from Base, too, but they aren’t in here (that I know of).

Shelly Ryder June 07, 2024 at 08:14 PM

I did not get anything from Base. Whew!

Well, look at me being wrong . You keep me honest, @Shelly Ryder

I received 1 outreach from Deeto months ago and took the call because I had a business problem that they could solve. We were a good match and so far it's worked out for us.

B2B sales is hard in this market. SDR outbound is very hard, and it's especially hard right now. I oversee partner marketing at our org and can tell you that communities like this one are, in fact, one of the most effective channels to drive business (for a lot of reasons). We are active in third-party communities where our personas/ICPs gather and we are not ashamed about doing outreach in those channels.

Obviously I didn't have the same experiences as people above because I'm already a Deeto customer. But in my experience, if an SDR is reaching out to me and I'm not interested in the product, a simple "no" has been an effective way to save both of us time and stop future outreach. It's the least we can do for someone whose full-time job is staying resilient in the face of rejection.

Of course community guidelines must be upheld, but I personally feel it's not cool to remove everyone from a given vendor company from the community. That's extreme, in my opinion. As an active member of this community, I would be curious to understand what steps were taken to communicate with the vendor about their missteps and whether there may be an opportunity for them to rejoin.

Hi @Perri Chaikof I can tell you are a fan of Deeto’s. Unfortunately, cold outreach in this community is not allowed. I started the community as a place for people to exchange support in advocacy & customer marketing. Being a vendor in the space, they were invited to join and follow the policies.

We have a 3 complaint policy, after that, you get removed. To give them the benefit of the doubt I definitely warned them more and each time I did talk to them it was because of multiple recent complaints.

First it was outreach in DMs with sales messages, not relationship building, not answering a question, etc. Then there were more messages in DM, then on other platforms, I believe LinkedIn, right after someone would post in the community, then DMs from new employees, and finally sending these emails each time someone posted.

The likes on this post are not because people just do not like a vendor in the community, it’s because this has been an ongoing issue where members stop participating because they have said no and the messaging continues.

There are definitely vendors in the community that have added a great deal of value to the conversations here and I’ve even told them when outreach isn’t OK. (They can post a response to a question and mention that the person can reach out to discuss it further). But Deeto didn’t add value here and they were leveraging a community I’ve worked really hard to build while pushing away members.

And finally, there were 8 members here from the Deeto team, 1 wasn’t with the company any longer, 1 had only been invited, 3 were active, and 3 were not and hadn’t been for some time. I did tell them we can revisit the conversation in 6 months.
