I have also heard this often, and it’s very frustrating. My strategy for getting around this is making sure to mention that I’m more interested in the right company and right role than a specific dollar amount when the interviewer asks about your desired salary range. I’m not sure if this works, but it’s just an idea.

Hello everyone - I’m excited to be a part of the community! I led the client advocacy efforts at a SaaS company called Bazaarvoice in Austin, TX several years ago and have since worked in a variety of other/similar marketing roles at WP Engine and Expedia. I’m actually on the hunt for a new company though, so will be keeping an eye out for opportunities, as I’m interested in getting back into client marketing and advocacy more specifically.
