I will be in the call today about reviews, but question for the group: Has anyone seen or dealt with fake reviews or bots on G2? I'm curious if this will become more of a problem moving forward...We have a competitor with a lot of obviously fake reviews and today I got an email from TrustRadius about how important quality is to them...so just wondering if this is a theme?

Very biased response because I work at G2, but we do everything we can to prevent fake reviews (there's a team of real people who approve or reject every review that comes in). It's possible some slip through the cracks, but if you see any that look like spam you can/should definitely flag it and our team will take another look!

Hi Katlin - thanks! I reported them - about half got removed the others didn't. I escalated the rest to my CSM (who is amazing) - when you look at them collectively it's so obvious.

But overall, with ChatGPT and other things, I'm just curious what G2 and other sites will and can do to prevent this? And is there any penalty for companies seeking reviews this way? I'm sure there is something in the contracts about this.

Great question! I know for G2 there's a level of authentication that it's an actual end user -- they have to login via LinkedIn or provide a business email. Here's more info on that.

I don't know the specifics on ChatGPT reviews but I'll definitely raise that to our product team, and see if there's anything about penalties. I believe it's also outlined in our contracts, and honestly also monitored/penalized by the FTC.

These "reviewers" have real LinkedIn profiles but if you dig in you can tell they are fake. Many have reviewed the same 2-3 products, so it seems like part of a bigger scheme and they are just sophisticated enough to beat the system.

In our case, it says they are sourced and incentivized by our competitor, so that's the frustrating part for me.

I spent a good couple of hours last week digging in - the whole thing is super fascinating and also super frustrating at the same time, given we're going up against this in our category 🫠

Oh wow, I have never heard of anything like that before! It sounds like you already escalated this to your CSM so I'm sure she also shared it with our team that validates reviews but I'll sync with her to see if there's anything I can do to help. I'm literally shocked that someone would go to that much trouble!!

@Ashley Ward Yes, we had a bunch of issues last year. All ‘verified’ reviews by ‘customers’. Like you said, they came from real profiles/people. Some got removed after one report, others took months of email after email for proof that they were in-fact invalid with nothing to do with our actual tool. Some of them were even apparently incentivized reviews so not sure how the reviewers were able to get by all of the verification. Long story short, keep reporting them…

@Ashley Ward @Katlin Hess here is an example of one that I ran into.
